TOP Visa Interview Tips

It is very important when attending your J1 Visa Interview at the US Embassy in your home country to be prepared.  The tips below will help prepare you.

VISA TIP #1 - Ties to Home Country
It is important that you show that you will be returning to your home country upon completion of your J1 program.  The term "ties" means something that binds you to your hometown, homeland or current place of residence.  Examples of this are:  job, family, property that you own or will inherit, investments, etc.  You should bring evidence (documents) of your "ties" to your visa interview.

VISA TIP #2 - English
The interview will be conducted in English and not in your native language.  Make sure hat you practice before your interview.

VISA TIP #3 - Know the Visa and How it will Help your Career Plans
It is very important to read and study your DS7002 (Training Plan).  You will be asked questions about your training and you will need to articulate the reasons why you are applying for the J1 Internship/Traineeship program.  You will also need to explain how participating in the J1 program will further your career in your home country.

VISA TIP #4 - Maintain a Positive Attitude
If you are denied, DO NOT engage in an argument with the officer.  Ask for a copy of the denial and a list of any documents that they would like to see on a next appointment.

VISA TIP #5 - Don't Say More Than is Necessary
Make sure to keep your answers clear and to the point and that you answer all of the questions honestly.  There are many applicants for a US Visa and the officer does not want to spend more than necessary.

VISA TIP #6 - Dress to Impress
You should make sure that you present yourself in a  professional manner.  You do not need to wear a suit, but you be wear business casual attire.  First impressions mean a lot.

We hope these tips will help prepare you for your visa interview!

Sincerely,
